Certified Nursing Assistant Classes

One of the primary advantages of taking certified nursing assistant classes is that it is a short course that you can complete in one year or less. These classes prepare you to take the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification Exam. CNA classes are short: They may range from only a few months or up to a year, depending upon whether attendance is part-time or full-time. The duration of the classes will also depend on the requirements in your state. There are prerequisites. In most cases you need to have a high-school diploma or the equivalent of, in order to enter the program. Check with your state requirements. Most states also require a criminal background check and mandatory drug testing to begin classes. You can often start working as a nursing aid even before having the certification, but if you want to widen your options and get a better salary you should take a CNA class first.
CNA classes are offered by universities and colleges, but also by many hospitals, nursing facilities, the Red Cross, and charity organizations. Some of these facilities offer CNA classes for free. In some cases you may start working as a nurse assistant while taking the course. There are also many on-line classes available, though you will still need to log hours of hands on clinics in order to be certified. There are a variety of skills that are taught during the CNA Certification classes. The training course includes classroom learning, the practicing of skills as well as hands on clinical experience. You will also participate in “theory” classes which include biology and anatomy classes. This will also include classes on patient care. These classes include hands on training in which you will learn how to perform the duties you will be performing as a CNA. While a CNA class is short and accessible, you need to pass the CNA exam to be certified. The certificate you acquire is not an actual nursing diploma. In order to become an actual nurse, you must take a longer course of study and training. After completing your certified nursing assistant classes, your chances of getting employed are very high. This is due to an increased demand for nursing assistants.
