CNA Training in Indiana

The population of Indiana has increased by almost a million people in the past 20 years. Individuals who become certified to work in the healthcare industry in Indiana will have many opportunities for employment as there will be a great demand for workers who can help the growing and aging population. To become a nurse in Indiana individuals must complete a state-approved CNA Training program. State-approved programs require that students receive at least 30 hours of classroom instruction and complete a minimum of 75 hours of clinical training. After finishing a state-approved program, individuals are then eligible to take state’s nurse aide competency evaluation. The evaluation is made up of two parts: a written portion and a skills portion. The written portion tests individuals over general medical knowledge and basic reading comprehension. The skills portion requires that students demonstrate randomly asked skills for an examiner.

After an individual passes the competency evaluation, and completes a background check for any criminal history, they will then be placed on the Indiana State Nurse Aide Registry. Being on this registry proves that an individual has met the state and federal standards that are required to work at any long-term healthcare facility in the state of Indiana. Employers contact the registry to verify job applicants have met the necessary standards before they hire CNAs to work for them. Nurse Tech located in Clarksville, Indiana offers CNA classes regularly. Along with preparing students to take the state evaluation, the training also includes job placement consulting. Students must be at least 16 years old to take the course and must have basic English and math skills. There are day classes and night classes available. In the program, students complete clinical hours together and there is lots of support given to students by staff.

Indiana University Northwest, in Gary, Indiana, offers CNA classes as part of their adult education program. The classes are made up of 105 hours in total. The course takes three weeks to complete and the clinical training required of the course is completed at various long-term care facilities in northwest Indiana. To take the program individuals must first complete a background check, a drug screening, and a general health examination.

Vincennes University’s Jasper Campus located in the city of Jasper, Indiana, offers a CNA certification training program. The program is made up of theory and clinical courses. The clinical training for the course takes place in various nursing homes located in the Jasper area. Students may choose to take classes at night or during the day. Individuals must be at least 16 years old to take the training program.

The CNA Institute of Indiana, located in the city of Indianapolis, offers a CNA program that takes three weeks to complete. The first week consists of classroom education and theory and the second and third week are for clinical training. The state competency exam is given on-site to students after finishing the course. During the three weeks classes take place during the mornings and early afternoons on Monday through Friday each day. There are some Free CNA Training programs for certain applicants that qualify in Indiana.
