To Become A CNA Requires Long Hours

The decision to become a CNA is a very important one. You are interacting with all types of people on a daily basis. CNA’s work directly under the supervision of experienced nurses and care for the basic needs of the patient. Before you begin CNA training to become a nurse, you need to make sure you enjoy helping people with medical needs. In some workplaces, long hours are required. To obtain your CNA certification, hard work and dedication are a must. It can be a very fulfilling career knowing you are helping people. Some basic things CNA’s do include checking the patient’s vital signs, grooming and bathing patients, and assisting with operation of medical equipment.

During CNA training, you will learn many different things. One lesson will be on how to properly lift and move a patient. Also, first aid and communication skills are a must. You will be spending a lot of the time with the patient, sometimes more than the doctors and nurses. Giving the patient good emotional support is critical during their stay.

There are many options for CNA training. Depending on where you live, there are many on-campus sites that offer programs for CNA certification. If you choose to go on campus, an advantage would be more hands on education. You will have a classroom instructor, and other students learning right alongside you. Another option to become CNA certified is through online courses. One advantage would be a more flexible schedule. You may have to do some additional training at a hospital or clinic to get your hands on experience. Either option requires a lot of study, or most CNA jobs require a state approved certification. Most courses are around 8 to 12 weeks long.

After you become a Certified Nursing Assistant there are a lot of opportunities for employment. Right now, there is a high demand for CNAs. Some options of employment are nursing homes, clinics, doctors’ offices, and hospitals. Most full time jobs have good benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Later, if you decide to further your education, you can go back to school to become an LPN, or RN.
